We all learned it in science class: a gallon of water weighs 8.34 pounds. Â A bowling ball weighs about the same.
So imagine trudging for miles, often in the hot sun, lugging water for your community. Â And what if all you have is a gas can or bucket that may have been filled with toxic substances like paint or fuel. Â Not a healthy picture if you’re trying to transport clean drinking water.
This article on GizMag caught my eye as it offers a real solution for water transport in emerging countries. Back the Pack, an organization founded by Greif and Impact Economics  has a launch goal of selling 100,000 worldwide between March 22 and September 3, 2012.
Ten dollars will deliver a WaterWear ™ backpack somewhere in the world.  So far 15,292 packs have been sold so far.  For more information visit https://www.backthepack.com/about/.
Thanks to GizMag for the heads up about this story.
